⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Azura
Age: 19/20ish. There are no canon ages so this is an estimate
Canon: Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation
Canon Point: Chapter 18

Background: here

Personality:

Overall, Azura comes across as a reserved, but intelligent young woman who knows more than she lets on about a lot of things. This is, for the most part, accurate but there’s more dimension to Azura that shines through as she interacts with others in either army during the course of the game. This creates a multidimensional character with a good sense of depth, as one would expect from a character that is considered the deuteragonist in the Fire Emblem: Fates story.

Azura’s reserved nature is reflected in her calm, measured voice, and in the expressions on her face. It’s not often that exaggerated expressions are found on her features, and her words are often carefully chosen save for a few instances. Often, Azura is the voice of reason in a heated moment, and she is usually there to ground Corrin during moments of emotional distress. This isn’t to say that Azura herself is unable to express herself in emotional moments, she definitely has the ability to, they’re just much more rare than her cooler facade. This facade is a point of contention at times, especially in some supports. Her support with Keaton in particular revolves around Keaton trying to get her to express herself. She does indeed get very angry at him, but still has trouble expressing that on her face for a while. It winds up causing a fair bit of confusion on Keaton’s part. However, eventually with Keaton’s help she learns to open up a little more around others. This road of self discovery and becoming more comfortable with herself is touched on in other supports as well, though not quite to the same degree.

Once she opens up, Azura can be quite playful, and often proves to be a very kind and thoughtful individual. She is not a completely humorless character, and finds amusement in simple ways. For example, she enjoys telling spooky stories to Sakura, who is a tender soul and suffers through them because they’re well crafted and she wants to hear the end. What better way to prevent yourself from being terrified at night after hearing a scary story? Despite her teasing, Azura is not one to tease out of cruelty. In fact, she tends to be quite the opposite, defaulting to a very kind and thoughtful nature despite often being misunderstood. Azura will go to long lengths to help those she cares about, even though she may have long since been separated from them. Despite the antagonistic exchanges she has with Silas, she saves his life when a creature sneaks into his tent at night. It’s this action (after a bit of back and forth between them) that proves to Silas that though he misunderstood her motives, Azura’s actions were altruistic and protective in nature.

Azura also has a weakness for cute things, this being displayed quite humorously when she feels a strong desire to pet Kaden in their support. This causes her to leave abruptly in order to avoid caving in to a desire that could have been considered rude. Luckily it seems that Kaden doesn’t mind, and Azura is able to indulge, from time to time. This probably translates towards other fuzzy animals, not just kitsune.

Her kind and caring side does not curb her sometimes cynical nature, as Azura has been exposed to more of the rough side of the world than Corrin has in particular. She plays an important outlook balance to the main character, often providing important guidance. In Conquest, it is sometimes Azura who has to pull Corrin aside when their idealistic nature endangers the path they are on in order to accomplish their plan to get Garon to sit on the throne in Hoshido. It can sometimes have her come across as cold towards those that neither she nor Corrin actually want to hurt, but she knows that they must play a certain role if they are to accomplish what they wish to do. She is willing to make the sacrifices in order to do that.

It’s also Azura’s knowledge of Valla that helps Corrin find the real cause of the strife between Hoshido and Nohr—a third, unseen, enemy. Without Azura’s insight and knowledge of Valla as its princess, it is possible that the true enemy of the game may never have been uncovered. This outlook also causes her to come across a bit more bluntly than most of the other people in the army. She readily accepts that she is an outsider and does not seem surprised when people tell her that they distrust her and her motives. She takes these things in stride on the surface though at times she does reveal that these words wound her. She does continue on, however, despite the barbs tossed in her direction.

Despite being okay with who she is and her own shortcomings, Azura has expressed desire to avoid having her son experience the same trials she has, including the burden of bearing the necklace she wears. This desire illustrates her deep seated desire to protect Shigure from something she would rather he never have to experience. Instead, she is much more comfortable continuing to shoulder the burden herself, and then to request the destruction of the necklace. In routes that she dies, she does so because of her sacrificial nature and desire to help Corrin achieve the peace they seek, whatever the circumstances.

Overall, Azura is a kindhearted person tempered by experiences that has given her a tough outer shell. While she may be more world weary than some of her companions, her wisdom and ability to persevere and see things through to the end prove to be extremely valuable to her and Corrin's cause.

Abilities:

Songstress - Azura is a songstress unit in the games, meaning she wields a lance/nagina as well as being a support unit. Her singing has the ability to rejuvenate units in battle, giving them the opportunity to strike again after their turn has been exhausted. This translates into a healing/rejuvenation sort of effect outside of game effects.

Lance/Naginata - Azura may appear frail but she is able to hold her own in a fight, and her weapon of choice are lances, or naginata depending on the weapon’s origin. While she’s not a superior fighter, she is more than capable of performing offensively on the battlefield carefully. She shines stronger as support rather than offense, however.

Pendant - Possibly most importantly is the pendant that Azura wears. It is likely this pendant that gives her songs the abilities that they have. In addition to the effects mentioned above, with the pendant and her song she has limited control over water. She has also been shown to be able to use the pendant and the song “Lost in thoughts all alone” as a way to subdue the protagonist corrin in moments of draconic rage, as well as to repel several others during the course of the stories. Notably, she uses this song in attempt to purify the possession that has taken hold of King Garron.

Alignment: Piphron. Azura has solid trust issues forming from her time in Nohr before she was kidnapped. She and her mother were treated very poorly and it has affected her personality greatly. Though she is slow to open up to people, she is also very loyal so once her trust is gained it means she can be a very good ally to have.

Other: I'm purposefully avoiding naming who Shigure's father is/might be and avoiding mentioning any other possible children, in order to be polite to any current and potential castmates. I don't want to lock someone into a ship because of headcanon.
